• The Belgian MSW thermolysis committee - is fighting a project of building a new 225,000 t/y MSW incinerator by proposing to use thermolysis instead of incineration because this somewhat new technology is considerably more environment friendly than is incineration. (A detailed comparison between incineration and thermolysis can be found at the following URLs: in English: http://www.ic.be/incin/leignon2.htm, in French: http://www.ic.be/incin/leignon.htm.) The Belgian government has announced that a similar incinerator near Brussels will not be built, but the decision is contingent on the city of Brussels cleaning up the Senne River. (No, we can't figure out the logic either...).
